Aquarium planning

How to use TankStockPilot

A repeatable path from input to interpretation.

Use TankStockPilot as a reproducible worksheet for aquarium planning. Start with the question the tool actually models, then keep its inputs and assumptions visible.

Follow the input sequence

  1. Measure inside dimensions and the intended water line in centimeters.
  2. Record substrate depth and a separate displacement estimate.
  3. Add each proposed species and count to the local planning list.
  4. Check adult dimensions, social needs and water requirements with species-specific sources.

Read the result in context

A 60 × 30 cm footprint with water at 35 cm has a 63 L rectangular envelope. A 5 cm substrate layer reduces the simple water space to 54 L; another 4 L of displacement gives a 50 L estimate. Substrate porosity and irregular decorations make actual water volume uncertain.

No fish-per-liter rule, compatibility score or stocking approval is generated. Volume alone cannot establish suitable space, group size, filtration or welfare for a species.

Keep your own record

Calculator numbers are not saved by the theme. Copy or print the record you need before closing the page. Reset restores the example, and a blank or invalid input produces an error message. The calculator requires JavaScript for live results; its written formula remains readable without it.
